Busy-ness as Usual

Been a busy week and a busy day. Kept up all night by a fucking car alarm (police won’t get involved, they just want to arrest anyone upsetting the rich & royals), I had to get my biometrics taken again for my residency on these blighted isles this morning and I managed to finally see the new Trek movie this afternoon, so only now am I remembering to do the blog.

I’ve talked about how incredibly stupid people can be & the damage they’ve caused, so maybe it’s time to talk about possible solutions.

Scientists Discover the ‘Dumb-Ass’ Gene

Well, no, not really, but it does make a good headline, doesn’t it? I’ve seen some articles and posts on the internet recently based on a 2011 study in a Journal for the Association for Psychological Science linking racism and stupidity, entitled Bright Minds and Dark Attitudes.

Really, this is old news. Just talk to a few EDL or KKK supporters and the stupidity becomes glaringly obvious. I’d be more interested in knowing what we plan to do about it. I want to see curative hypotheses being tested under clinical conditions! My hypotheses is that if you smack these idiots upside the head with a big stick every time they say something racist, homophobic or sexist, soon they will stop, and a percentage will reevaluate their backward views. I’d like a grant to carry out an experiment to test my hypothesis.

I talked last week about how incredibly stupid human beings can be. Tonight I’m going to talk about the repercussions of that stupidity. The prejudices, fears and hatreds that arise from it that affect us all. In between, of course, I’ll be playing some great music!

Much Ado about Something

The Bard’s B’Day was this week and it got me thinking about poetry, art, language and music. I’ve spent years trying to figure out how and why music affects us so strongly. Without using drugs, there are only two ways to achieve instant ecstasy, sex and music. The pleasure behind sex is widely understood, but music? How can sounds, mere vibrations in the air tickling tiny membranes in the head, cause such pleasure? I’ve got a few new theories about it that I’ll be discussing on tonight’s show as I play some of the sweetest tunes from across decades, genres and maybe even dimensions.

Clueless in Blighty

I had the interesting experience of going out drinking with a bunch of UKBA Immigration Officers last night. My first mistake was, having cut down on my drinking in the last few years to the point that I have the tolerance of a bunny rabbit, trying to match their drinking levels. My second mistake was not realizing that the rum & cokes I was drinking were all doubles. So I have spent the day sleeping, chewing aspirin and ibuprofen, drinking litres of water (this is England, they no longer DO gallons), sleeping and moaning about the end of the world. I’ve kept a bloodshot, bleary eye cocked at the news and Facebook feed, for ideas about the show, but really, who the hell knows what my cranky, inebriated brain cells are making of it all? I certainly don’t.

So tonight show will be a surprise to everyone, including myself. Have something you want to talk about, or a song request, come into the chat room to let me know.

Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.

Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead. She’s gone where the goblins go, below - below - below!

As I write this, I sit here feverish, ailing, congested and conflicted. I’ve been planning for this show since I started doing this, the celebration of the death of the ’Iron Lady‘, Margaret Thatcher. Yet all of the many vicious and acerbic witticisms I had lined up have fled my feverish brain. Yeah, Thatcher’s bad...mmmmm-kay?

At the same time, one of my icons, Johnathon Winters died. He’s well deserving of being remembered, and it would be a real shame if his legacy is overshadowed by the death of a morally impoverished harpy. She stole so much from so many, setting an entire nation, nay, an entire continent on a path to destruction. While he gave so much to so many, in spite of a mental illness that bedeviled his entire life, that not only made him miserable but caused him to be stigmatized when he became one of first the celebrities to be honest and come clean about it, he managed to laugh. He managed to see the funny side of people, even the most heinous, and we couldn’t help but to laugh with him.

So, what will tonight’s show be about? You guessed it. Or not… ‘caused I sure as hell haven’t. Either of them or both of them. I’ve spent the past few days working outside in the wind and the cold with a mild flu, that has managed to explode as I finally am able to rest and relax in the relative warmth and semi-comfort of home, so your guess is as good as mine. I can guarantee the show will be entertaining, because what I may lack in coherence at this point will be more than made up for by the removal of what few censorious inhibitions I have… wanna know how I really feel? Then tune in, and you may find out more than you ever expected or even wanted to know! Oh yeah, I’ll be spinning some awesome tunes as well!

Merry Musical Madness and Mayhem

Every week, I make some irritable observations and irascible complaints about the world around me. This week is no different, but really, what to choose? The absolute insanity of the human race increases exponentially, like the velocity of a lemming falling at 32 feet per second squared. The most powerful country in the world is actually debating, in this, the Twenty First fucking Century, whether women should have equal rights to men. Schizophrenic fantasists following Bronze Age superstitions, who have rejected any form of scientific training, actually believe that a Y chromosome bestows some magical superiority that must be protected by legislation. Really? Are you fucking kidding me? It would be laughable if the consequences weren’t so dire.

As we distract ourselves with this pathetic debate, the One Percent continue their stranglehold, passing laws to protect themselves, enrich themselves and punish dissent, while blatantly stealing anything within reach, bleeding government coffers dry, and swilling from the public trough as they deny sustenance to the very weakest among us, hypocritically calling them ‘scroungers’.

I reiterate, are you fucking kidding me?

Meanwhile, the weather in Blighty is truly frightful. Hail, sleet and snow in Spring. The puppets of the One Percent, those ignorant assholes that we benignly label Climate Change Deniers, run screaming towards the edge of the precipice trying to use this as proof that Global Warming is a fantasy. Hey Morons! Guess what? Global Warming means disruptions to the Gulf Stream, which would make the British Isles COLDER, not warmer! Read a fucking book already!

British Bureaucracy, Astounding Astarte and Wry, Witty Wrangling

Ah, another inglorious week in Buggery Ol’ Blighty! As I drown in paperwork and demands from both the British government and local council, I freeze in awe at the icy winds and scattered snow that is the coldest Spring Britannia has experienced in centuries. Really. As I enjoyed my first cigarette of the day this morning, shivering and scanning the cloudy sky for some hint of golden sun, some vestige of blue, some breath of warmth, it began to snow. Oh England, you temperamental wench, how thou dost vex me!

As I’m scrambling to get the necessary documentation in order to file for my permanent residency on these blighted isles, I am also preparing to start a new governmental job for which I must show some of the same documents and identity papers that I need to send to the Home Office, by MAIL, no less. Yes, I must trust my life, my livelihood, my very identity to the privatized Royal Mail system. Luckily, I have a couple of days free to do this, it being a “Bank Holiday” (the Brit equivalent of Federal Holiday) for Easter.

Now, here’s a holiday I can love and support. Not the mindless, sadistic Xtian version of laying blame on a human scapegoat, but the original orgy of fertility, the orgasmic welcoming of Spring! The sexually charged bit of sympathetic magic that embraces and incurs the burgeoning green growth, the lengthening of the day, the warmth of the almost forgotten sun. Of course, all that is well and good, but it’s the orgy part that gets a rise out of me.

I’ll be discussing all of this, as well the rumors and dark tidings of another war in South East Asia on this evening’s show interspersed with playing great tunes from across generations and genres.
